App FAQ

General

How was Cradle developed?

The process and idea for Cradle was developed over years of in-person, one-on-one sleep consultations provided by the founder of this app. She found that families were struggling to fit into pre-made sleep programs and felt restricted by their limited options. This app is based on the sleep questionnaire, planner, and follow-up advice that she gathered over the past ten years of providing developmental sleep support to families.

What are the benefits of Sleep Training?

Sleep is one of the most essential needs for children to meet their developmental milestones on time. In addition to helping support the brain’s development it also provides an opportunity for children to learn how to self-soothe. As children get older self-soothing is a primary skill for learning how to cope with stress so that your child is spending most of the day calm and regulated. Children under the age of 3 years need almost 2x as much sleep as an adult to support brain development. Interruption to this sleep pattern can cause health problems, mood dysregulation, and developmental delays.

What if my baby isn’t old enough for a sleep plan?

Babies who are too young for a structured sleep program are best served by organizing their sleep and feeding cycles on a schedule. Establishing a schedule our meals and sleep is one of the best ways to support early sleep development. Additionally, this app provides troubleshooting tips for parents of infants to screen for common sleep pitfalls specific to this age group.

Why should I pay for Cradle?

Cradle provides a streamlined process for building and following your personalized sleep plan. The fee for Cradle is based on current cost for sleep training books/resources available to parents for children in this age group. The difference between a book versus the Cradle sleep training app is that the app allows parents to set up their own intervention while receiving specific information pertaining only to what they’re experiencing at the time. This saves parents the effort of reading additional information that may or may not apply to their child’s sleep training experience.

What is included in the Cradle app?

Cradle provides a customizable Sleep Routines (for babies 0-4 months) and Sleep Plans (for babies 5-24 months). Through the app, you can track feedings, diapers and sleep activities. The app provides detailed information to help you every step of the way as you work to get your baby on a Sleep Schedule. There is also a robust FAQ filled with information.

Will my Cradle account work online?

Cradle is currently an iOS mobile app only. All of your baby’s information is stored on a server and you can access it through another device with the login you created. You can also export tracked data from the settings menu at any point.

What should I do if the app crashes/freezes?

If the app crashes or freezes, try force quitting it by double clicking the home button of your phone and swiping up on the cradle screen.

How can I rate the app in iTunes?

On the last day of your plan, Cradle will ask if you’d like to rate the app in iTunes. If you did not like or had problems with the app, we invite you to send us feedback at: [email protected].

How can I let Cradle know I have an issue or suggestion?

If you an issue or suggestion, we invite you to send us feedback at: [email protected].

Sleep Routines & Sleep Plans

What is a sleep routine and how do I set one up?

Babies under 5 months old are too young to benefit from a full sleep plan and are best served by a sleep routine. Sleep routines help prepare babies for sleep training by organizing their sleep and feeding schedules. Establishing these routines is one of the best ways to support early sleep development. To set up a sleep routine:

  • Select the “Finish Routines Setup” button on the Cradle home screen.

OR

  • Open the settings menu by selecting the gear icon in the top right corner of the Cradle home screen.
  • Select “Set Up Sleep Routine.”

What is a sleep plan and how do I set one up?

Babies 5-24 months old are the ideal age for sleep training through a sleep plan. Cradle sleep plans provide personalized options for all types of sleepers to regulate specific patterns around sleep. Establishing these patterns helps babies learn to self-soothe and ultimately reach developmental milestones on time. To set up a sleep plan:

  • Select the “Finish Plan Setup” button on the Cradle home screen.

OR

  • Open the settings menu by selecting the gear icon in the top right corner of the Cradle home screen.
  • Select “Set Up Sleep Plan.”

What is the difference between a sleep plan and a sleep routine?

Sleep plans regulate the specific patters around sleep to ultimately help babies reach developmental milestones on time. They are ideal for babies 5-24 months old, who are developmentally ready to learn self soothing techniques. Babies under 5 months old are too young for this sort of sleep training and are instead served best by sleep routines. Sleep routines focus simply on organizing sleep and feeding events, rather than regulating them. Establishing these routines is one of the best ways to support early sleep development.

How do I pause my sleep plan?

The longer a plan is paused, the more difficult it may be for your baby to seamlessly begin again. Beyond one week, your plan will be deleted and you will be prompted to start over, as your baby’s learning process needs to be “re-set.” To pause your plan:

  • Open the settings menu by selecting the gear icon in the top right corner of the Cradle home screen.

Sleep, Feeding, and Diaper Entries

Why is tracking food, diapers and sleep so important for my sleep plan?

Tracking food, diapers, and sleep enables the app to screen for any problem areas that might affect a successful outcome of a child reaching his/her sleep goals. Dehydration, reactions to foods, and diaper output can indicate that there may be a medical component to your child’s sleep difficulties. This app is in no way a replacement for discussing any concerns with your pediatrician. Instead, it provides important alerts to inform parents when their child is falling out of expected range for any of these areas.
